Join us Sundays at 11 AM!

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised
― Luke 4:18

Liberty is the first and only African American-led Presbyterian congregation in Minnesota, founded utilizing the liberation motif of the historic African American Church and its action-reflection model. Our congregation and leadership are  guided by the spirit of Luke 4:18, which reflects our commitment to standing alongside the oppressed and marginalized in our local, national, and global communities. We model Jesus’ commission to send out disciples proclaiming that God’s kingdom is full, abundant, and plentiful, which is achieved by  practicing radical community involvement and recognizing that we are a community of healers in need of healing and liberation.

Our Values

Liberty Community Church operates on the values of spiritual power, equity, economic self-sufficiency, and access to the power of God without bias or discrimination. Through our services and programming, we offer connection with God and each other, healing, and holistic support that aims for the transformation and healing of others and ourselves beyond the walls of the church.

Cherish and Prioritize Relationships

From our chartering in 2002 to today, Liberty Community church cherishes and prioritizes relationships as a means of belonging. We use our collective strength to transform the negative forces of community trauma and oppression into positive energy for community change and healing. This is accomplished through proclaiming Jesus’ liberating freedom and utilizing the power of God to heal our bodies, minds, and souls.

Love-in-Action

We seek out the strengths and beauty in our community and work to amplify it. Our way to wellness and wholeness lies in strengthening our connections and embracing a love ethic utilizing all the dimensions of love identified by bell hooks: care, commitment, trust, responsibility, respect, and knowledge.
